Demystifying and Embodying Ayurveda

Ayurveda is an ancient science of Life, Healing, and Medicine. It is the 5,000 year old system of natural healing and medicine that supports Yoga, its sister science. Ayurveda seeks to understand all aspects of material existence from birth to death, and all aspects of our being from physical to spiritual. It works from a simple truth: when something goes out of balance, disease happens, and the opposite of the imbalance is needed to restore and heal.

Nature is medicine in Ayurveda, and in this day and age of such disconnection to ourselves, others, AND Nature - the wisdom-teaching-practices of Ayurveda provide a beautiful path back to balance and harmonious living on all levels. We see what is being revealed with studies linked to Yoga, and now modern science is also proving what Ayurveda has perceived for thousands of years.

This 4 week workshop series is designed to:

  • Give a rich introduction to Ayurveda, and link its deep connection to Yoga

  • Provide a map for understanding the full spectrum of the human being, based on Sankhya Philosophy

  • Clean up common misconceptions and confusion about Ayurveda, particularly related to one’s Prakruti (Constitution) and Vikruti (current state of imbalance)

  • Explain the pathology of disease according to Ayurveda, and how it is treated

  • Teach foundational Ayurvedic principles, guidelines, and practices for living

  • Show how to use the tools of Ayurveda effectively and intentionally in a Yoga asana practice

Beyond lecture and discussion, experiential practices will be a part of each session, including meditation, pranayama, mantra, and/or asana. Those new to Ayurveda, as well as seasoned in its practice, will gain tremendously from this workshop series! *This workshop is HIGHLY recommended for Yoga teachers.

Seeking Balance: Dancing With The Twenty Gunas

The word guna means quality.  One of the main principles of Ayurveda is that everything that exists has a certain quality or qualities.   And where there is quality there will be an effect.  Ayurveda lays out twenty qualities that co-exist as ten complementary pairs.    Some obvious pairs are hot/cold, heavy/light, smooth/rough.    Moving towards health the Ayurvedic way is all about learning the art of discerning these qualities both within and without, and using that knowledge to bring ourselves back to a place of balance.    In our last session together, we will take a good look at the twenty gunas and practice perceiving them in our bodies, minds, the environment, foods, and more.   (maybe your wish to work with color can come in here?)

This is part of a three-week series titled: What is Ayurveda, the sister science of Yoga?

Description: Nowadays Yoga has pretty much become a household name, and the word Ayurveda has been popping up more and more.  In this three-week series we invite all curious hearts on an embodied dive into the wisdom river of Yoga's sister science: Ayurveda, the science of healthy living.  Come discover the philosophy that underlies both Yoga and Ayurveda, and explore the foundational principles of Ayurveda with the whole of your being.   We will journey into the five elements, the twenty-four tattvas of Samkhya,  the three original gunas and Ayurveda's classic twenty gunas.  We will discover the connection between macrocosm and microcosm, and gain a working knowledge of how to seek balance the Ayurvedic way.

*Sign up for all three workshops in the series and the cost is $108.
